The Fox and Hounds / Aperfield Inn
The 'Old Surrey Foxhounds' at the Fox and Hounds. It has been a long time since a hunt has been seen at Biggin Hill, but in the early part of the century hunting was a regular activity in the area. The 'meet' usually took place on the forecourt of a public-house, in this case the Fox and Hounds at Westerham Hill and there was often a following of local people several hundred strong. The old motor cycle in the foreground is an interesting model which defied identification by the experts. (Do you know?)

January 2012 has seen the old 'Fox and Hounds' given a complete makeover. Even the name. It is now owned by 'Vintage Inns' who have re-named it the Aperfield Inn, an ancient spelling of "apple tree field", and is built on land that once formed part of the Manor of Aperfield. I think it will take a while for locals to get use to the name. For me it will always be the Fox and Hounds.

And their new sign shows the Aperfield Cedar Tree. Nice touch. Perhaps it should also say 'Formally the Fox and Hounds'.
